Baby delivered after Derry accident dies

DERRY – A baby delivered after her pregnant mother was killed in an Aug. 8 accident in Derry died yesterday.

Rachel Lee Stanley was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m. at Massachusetts General Hospital, said Derry Police yesterday after they were notified of the baby's death by the state medical examiner.

The baby's mother, Tonya Wells, 24, was nine months pregnant when she was run over by Joseph Stanley, 24, her boyfriend of six years.

Stanley told police they were arguing when Wells opened the truck door threatening to jump, then accidentally fell onto Island Pond Road.

The couple had three boys together, ages 5, 3 and 1. No charges have been filed in the accident, which remains under investigation, police said.

Wells' last known address is on Rockingham Road in Derry; Stanley's is Cross Street in Salem, police say.
